Short background
In the 108th minute of the 2022 FIFA World Cup Final, Lionel Messi scored Argentina’s 3–2 goal in extra time. During the celebration, the match ball entered the crowd and was recovered by the brothers, who were authorized by stadium security to keep it.
The ball is being prepared for public exhibition and cultural programming ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
